Brian Urlacher rips Bears for releasing Devin Hester

Brian Urlacher crop2.jpg

It's only been one year since Brian Urlacher and the Chicago Bears parted ways. But old wounds were opened again on Thursday when the Bears announced their decision to also cut ties with longtime return specialist Devin Hester. Simply put, Urlacher was not happy with the franchise's decision.

“I was really surprised to hear the news,” Urlacher told in a telephone interview. “You think of Devin returning all those punts and kicks as a Bear. He’s going to break the record on another team, probably. It’s crazy to think he won’t be in a Bears uniform doing that. It’s frustrating as an ex-Bear and a player to see that happen.”

Photo: Kansas City television station has graphical error showing Royals game results

View image on Twitter

So, if you tuned into to catch the results of spring training games on KCTV, a CBS affiliate located in Kansas City, you might have been told that the Royals edged out the Chicago Bears by a score of 5-3.

That in fact is incorrect as the Bears don't play spring training games. But the Chicago Cubs do. Seen above is a screenshot capturing the miscue by KCTV.

Mike Ditka bashes Super Bowl being played in cold weather city: 'It's stupid'

It's Super Bowl week and that means the game is front and center. It also means that it's the perfect time for folks to criticize the game being played at MetLife Stadium in frigid East Rutherford, N.J. We can include former NFL coach Mike Ditka among that contingent.

"The weather’s going to be a problem,” he said bluntly, per Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. “They made a big mistake. The game shouldn’t be there. I mean, it’s stupid."

Ditka isn't the only retired coach to come and out and condemn the Super Bowl being played in a cold weather climate. Hall of Fame coach Don Shula did the same recently. And both touched upon the fact that the weather not only affects the players, but the fans who attend the game, too.

Bears fan who used stun gun on his Packers-loving wife hit with $250 fine

Hey, do you remember that story we brought you in November about a Bears fan who used a stun gun on his wife, who also happens to be Packers fan?

Well, apparently that guy was slapped with a $250 fine by an Illinois circuit court last week after pleading no contest to disorderly conduct.

The 42-year-old alleges that he and his wife had a bet over Monday Night Football that allowed him to use the stun gun on her if Green Bay lost. Of course, Green Bay in fact lost, and the man followed through on their ridiculous bet, expect his wife took exception when he allegedly stunned her twice in the ass and once in the thighs. She called police and her husband wound up getting in trouble with the law.

Video: Chicago Bears fan (and dad) ruins daughter's Christmas with Packers jersey

It's no secret that the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers don't like each other. And neither do their fans.

Well, one Bears fan/father decided to have some fun with the bitter rivalry by surprising his unsuspecting daughter with what she believed was a Bears jersey. However, once she opened the package she discovered the jersey inside was really that of the Packers.

Her reaction is one that shouldn't be too surprising of a loyal fan receiving apparel of the team's biggest rival. Come on, dad. That's a low blow!

Photo: Brandon Marshall stays warm with custom furry cleats

Brandon Marshall's Furry Cleats Keep His Feet Warm

It gets bitterly cold this time of the year in Chicago and nobody knows that better than Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

This is precisely why the witty player has developed cleats that feature a furry inside to help keep his feet warm during frigid games.

For example, the bears traveled to Cleveland to battle the Browns last weekend, and you better believe the temperature was cold, but Marshall's feet were nice and toasty thanks to these slipper-like cleats.

Marshall may be on to something profitable here.

Thousands participate in first ever 'Ditka Dash' in Chicago

Photo: CONGRATULATIONS Ditka Dash finishers! What an awesome day at Soldier Field! We're pretty sure you broke the record for the most beer and hotdogs ever consumed at a running event! Thank you for your fun attitudes, crazy costumes, and your unshakable Chicago spirit! See you at Da Dash in 2014!

The first ever Ditka Dash 5k took place this weekend in Chicago. As the title may suggest, the race invites Chicagoans to dress up like legendary Bears coach Mike Ditka and run around the city.

There were plenty of sunglasses, fake mustaches, and sweaters used as accessories in the race.

All in all, about 2,000 people participated in the event.

Even the man who inspired the event was there to show his support.

Bears fan uses stun gun on his wife to settle football bet

Chicago Bears fan John Grant appeared in Dodge County Circuit Court on Tuesday for allegedly using an electric stun gun on his wife, a Green Bay Packers fan, to settle a bet the two made as a result of Monday Night Football.

The bet was rather simple: John said his wife agreed to allow him to use a stun gun on her if the Packers lost. As fate would have it, the Packers lost 27-20, and the rest is history.

However, things went awry went Nicole Grant called police immediately after her husband followed through with the bet and shocked her three times with the taser.

Bears Fans Troll Cheeseheads with Cheese Grater Headgear

One of the NFL's greatest rivalries was on display Monday night at Lambeau Field.

Yes, the Green Bay Packers played host to the Chicago Bears in an NFC North grudge match, and a few Bears fans managed to make their way inside the visiting stadium, trolling the home fans with cheese grater headgear in mockery of the cheese headgear traditionally worn by Packers fans.

Chicago also won the game, 27-20, to add insult to injury.

Martellus Bennet: I want to punch Brandon Meriweather in the face

Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett is still fuming over the illegal hits Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather unleashed against the Bears on Sunday.

In fact, Bennett would like to prove it in a physical manner if he could.

“Oh, I still want to punch him in the face,” Bennett said on the Boers and Bernstein Show on 670 the Score in Chicago.

"What it comes down to, at the end of the day, the players have got to look out for the players. There's a way to go out there and be a beast when you hit people, and have nobody want to come across the middle," Bennett said. "But then there's a way not to do it, where you're deliberately hitting guys [high], or after the game you're saying, Oh, I've got to pay, because you know what you did was wrong when you were doing it. Then it just becomes wrong."

Calvin Johnson on Bears: 'Can't stand them'

An NFL rivalry is renewed this weekend when the Chicago Bears pay a visit to the Motor City to battle the Detroit Lions. And this means trash talking is inevitable.

The most recent bit of talk comes from Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson, who made his feelings crystal clear on what he thinks about the Bears, he can't stand them.

“Can’t stand them, one, because they’re filling up the stadium a lot with a lot of Bears fans. So that’s one reason I can’t stand them.”

It's not necessarily a crime for opposing fans to flood a visiting stadium. In my opinion, it just makes them extremely loyal fans. If Johnson is really that upset with the proportion of Bears fans to Lions fans at Ford Field, perhaps he needs to call out his own fans, instead.

Gale Sayers suing NFL and helmet maker for failing to prevent head injuries

Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers has filed a suit against the National Football League, along with helmet maker Riddell, claiming that neither did their due diligence to prevent head-related injuries that led to brain damage.

The former Chicago Bears star claims he has experienced headaches, memory loss, and other negative effects from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, according to the suit.

The suit claims Sayers played with concussions because the NFL never warned him doing so could cause brain damage. The five-count lawsuit also names Riddell as a defendant, claiming the helmet maker did not provide adequate safety instructions or information about which models provide the best protection.

The suit comes a mere month after the NFL reached a whopping $765 million settlement with a group of former players for brain injuries sustained during their playing careers.

Martellus Bennett says his coach reminds him of Willy Wonka

Chicago Bears wide receiver Martellus Bennett paid his head coach, Marc Trestman, a relatively odd and interesting compliment on Tuesday, likening Trestman to Willy Wonka, specifically the Willy Wonka portrayed by Gene Wilder in the 1971 film.

"I always say Coach Trestman reminds me of the first Willy Wonka. Not the Johnny Depp one. The Johnny Depp one was really cool, but the first one before that, the 1943 version."

Actually, the adaptation Bennett referred to is the 1971 film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" starring Gene Wilder. Depp starred in another adaptation of the movie in 2005.

"He's a genius," Bennett said of Trestman. "A lot of times when you're around really, really smart people, you don't really understand them.

"I thought Willy Wonka was brilliant. He had all kinds of candy. Who doesn't like chocolate and candies? Everybody wanted a Gobstopper. I just think he's brilliant."

Photo: Fan makes Chicago Bears-inspired football field in backyard

The Chicago Bears are a big part of my life and stuff

Hey, it's officially football season.

Fans have been waiting a long time for this moment and sometimes they do outrageous things to celebrate.

Take this Chicago Bears fan, for example, who decided to devote a good portion of his backyard to a Bears-inspired football field, complete with a midfield logo, yardmarkers, and out of bound lines.

The only thing missing is a pair of goal posts.

Video: Anthony Adams makes rap song about barbeque ribs

Anthony "Spice" Adams has been keeping very busy since he announced his retirement from pro football earlier this year. In fact, an argument could be made that the former defensive tackle is as busy and as popular as ever.

His latest creation involves a rap video about barbeque ribs. No, seriously take a look.

Here is the description of the video from YouTube:

This is a Music video parody to Tyga's Rack City. Spice is 2 A's and the song is Slab City. In this video Spice shows his love for pork by cooking and eating lots of ribs.

Bears fullback Evan Rodriguez arrested after car crash incident

Chicago Bears fullback Evan Rodriguez was arrested in Miami early Thursday after allegedly refusing to cooperate with officers when a car he was riding in wrecked.

The 24-year-old is facing charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer. He was booked into the Miami Dade County Jail at 5:32 a.m. and released several hours later after posting $1,500 bail.

Here's more on the story, courtesy of the USA TODAY:
Rodriguez was riding with another man when they got into a crash around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. An officer asked Rodriguez for his identification for the crash report, and Rodriguez reportedly responded, "For what, I don't need this, I'm an NFL player. I don't need all that media stuff."

Former Green Bay Packers cheerleader fights bullying from Bears fans

This photo of Kaitlyn Collins prompted taunts from Chicago Bears fans after it was posted Monday evening on a Bears fan page on Facebook. The photo was taken down Thursday afternoon.

A former Green Bay Packers cheerleader is fighting back after being taunted by a group of Chicago Bears fans on Facebook.

Kaitlyn Collins, who cheered for the Packers in 2009 while attending classes at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, was the subject of cyberbulling when the Bears fan page posted a photo of Collins on Monday with the caption: "Like If You Agree the Packers Have The Worst Cheerleaders In The NFL!"

The caption itself wasn't the worst part, but some of the comments made by users were clearly insensitive.

Once Collins got word of the post, she replied: "Wow. Being bullied via Facebook. I may not look like a super model, but to call me ugly..."

Collins even created a YouTube video in which she asked for support in helping remove the photo from the popular social media site. She also urged viewers to assist in her right against cyberbullying.

Jay Cutler proposed to his girlfriend via text message, mailed her engagement ring

Premiere Of Summit Entertainment's "Source Code" - Arrivals
How does an NFL quarterback propose to his reality star girlfriend these days? By popping the question via text message, of course.

This is precisely the route Chicago Bears signal caller Jay Cutler took when asking for Kristin Cavallari's hand in marriage. Cutler pulled the trigger in November 2011 after the two initially became engaged in April 2011. They called things off in July and then got together again in November.

Here is how the alleged text message proposal went down, according to Cavallari:

“It was so silly. I was in the airport, leaving Chicago. We had just spent however many days together and we were texting and somehow it came up, like, ‘Oh, shall we get married?’ We’re like, ‘Yeah, OK.’ And then he sent my ring in the mail. So I actually had my ring sitting at home for a couple of weeks before I put it on.”

Yes, that is correct. Cutler actually mailed the engagement ring once Cavallari accepted his proposal the second time. Ah, what a charmer that guy is.

Maybe that is why his name recently landed on Forbes' list of most disliked athletes?

Mother of Jay Cutler's child doesn't want their son to play football

Kristen Callari, the fiancee of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, said that she doesn't want her 5-month old son to play football, unlike his father. She cites safety concerns as the main reason.

"I will try to steer Cam in a different direction, maybe a sport that isn't so aggressive," Cavallari told Chicago. "Maybe baseball -- something where he doesn't have to get hit."

Of course, doesn't every mother believe this sort of logic?

Her worries could be justified, though. Cutler has suffered multiple concussions in the last two season which have caused him to miss game time.

"At the end of the day, I think if he wants to play football, I don't know if I'm gonna have too much control over it," said Cavallari. "You know, how can your dad be a football player and you tell them that they can't do it?"

Cutler has previously stated that he would "absolutely" allow his son, Camden, to play football if he desires. This may cause a rift between the parents down the road, but they won't likely have to worry about the matter for a few more years, at least.

Video: NFL free agent Spice Adams stars in hilarious Christmas-themed pitch

One can only imagine how stir crazy an NFL free agent can get while being unemployed.

Take 32-year old Anthony "Spice" Adams for example. The former Chicago Bear (2007-11) and San Francisco 49er (2003-06) has been out of work all season in 2012. And as you can see in the hilarious video above, Adams is clearly ready to get back to work.

This is by far the greatest, and most creative, sales pitch by a free agent I have ever seen. I really hope some team signs this guy. If not, I'm eagerly anticipating what kind of video Spice churns out for New Year's.
