How Dale Earnhardt Jr. paid off his first speeding ticket

Dale Earnhardt Jr. was born to go fast. After all, racing cars at extremely high speeds is in his bloodlines. But there was once a time when Junior's need for speed got him in trouble with the law.

Appearing on the Dan Patrick Show, Earnhardt Jr. told the story about his first ever speeding ticket and what he did to pay for it. According to Junior, the ticket came soon after he received his license in his first vehicle, a 1988 S-10 pickup truck. And it didn't take long for his dad to think of a way to pay the fine.

Dad was following me home… we had just had an argument about something, I can’t remember what, but I pull out of the farm and I’m hauling [expletive] home. I got about two miles from the farm and I passed a state trooper and saw his brake lights so I just went ahead and pulled over and waited on him.
Here comes the state trooper and he gets out and he’s writing me a ticket and dad drives by. So dad drives by and goes up about a mile down the road to a gas station and pulls over. I get my ticket… I see dad and I pull in there behind him.

He says ‘did he write you a ticket?’

I said ‘yeah.’

He said ‘I guess you need to get a job.’

The rest is history as Junior spent the next couple of months working at a gas station to pay his debt.

The story ends well though. Junior recently got a replica of the same exact 1988 S-10 he once tore up the road with as a teen.
