The digital currency giant known as Bitcoin is moving into the college football landscape by agreeing to sponsor the bowl game formerly known as the Beef O' Brady Bowl. After striking a deal with the bowl committee, the game will now be known as the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl.
“Our goal is to continue to move bitcoin into the mainstream and sponsoring the St. Petersburg Bowl offers us that opportunity,” said Tony Gallippi, executive chairman for BitPay. “College football fans and the bitcoin community represent a similar target demographic – tech-savvy men between the ages of 18 and 40.”
For some reason, I find it extremely fitting that a company who specializes in fake money is sponsoring a dubious bowl game. But perhaps that's just me.
And that's about all you need to know about that.
