Ryne Sandberg is a Hall of Fame second basemen who made 10 All-Star Game appearances and is currently the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies. A natural question to ask is what exactly led Sandberg to be so successful in professional baseball. Well, a quick look into his childhood diet may present the answer.
Apparently, Sandberg used to munch on Friskies cat food like it was Chex Mix as a kid. And not just a few times either. Sandberg revealed on a morning radio show in Philly that he Incorporated cat food into his diet for "about a year."
"I did that as a youngster, maybe four or five-years-old, maybe six-years-old. I don't know. I guess I was hungry. I still remember the crunchiness of it was the biggest thing. This wasn't a one time thing either. This went on for about a year as a little snack," he confessed.
You can find the full audio clip at this link. But perhaps you agree with my assessment that no further investigation is needed. Sandberg slammed cat food as a kid and doesn't care who knows about it. Furthermore, it appears Sandberg turned out alright.
