In fact, the game between the Rays and Yankees went well into the evening as both teams duked it out in a 14-inning affair. All told, the game last nearly six hours before Tampa Bay finally prevailed, 10-5, over the host.
Playing in such long contests undoubtedly causes immense hunger and boredom. This is probably what led to David DeJesus grabbing an ice cream bar in the top of the 14th to kill some time and curb his hunger.
Perhaps it was a coincidence, but the Rays went on to score five runs in the frame, so don't be surprised if eating delicious ice cream bars in the dugout becomes a ritual for DeJesus in the Rays.
