John McCain says he would 'probably change' Redskins name

There has been a long and controversial debate over whether the Washington Redskins should change their team nickname.

On Friday, Senator John McCain threw his opinion on the matter into the mix as well, saying he would "probably change" the name if the decision was up to him.

"If they think it's that offensive and terrible, I would certainly -- probably -- I'm not the owner and he has the rights of an owner. But frankly I would probably change the name," McCain said during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show. "Myself I'm not offended. You're not offended. But there are Native Americans who are."

Patrick then asked if McCain believed there were any connections between the Redskins situation and the Donald Sterling mess.

“I'm not sure I connect the two. But I do believe if I were [Snyder] I would sit down with Native American leaders," McCain said. "I've been involved in Indian Affairs in a long, long time. We have a large Native American population in our state. I'd call the Native American leaders together and I'd sit down with them and say ‘What is it you want?' If I were him I'd have a dialogue."

It's hard to imagine that aforementioned dialogue actually occurring. Why? Well, because if Snyder sits down with Native American leaders we know what they will suggest to change the name. And if Snyder doesn't want to do it, one can read between the lines and realize a meeting is not likely to happen.

  1. And that is why McCain lost to a no leadership experience idiot who's destroying the country. Come On Man! I was on the Paiute Reservation in Shurz, Nevada yesterday and what do I see but a rotund little Native Woman with a license plate that read SKINZ. Yeah, they're offended all right, just like blacks are by the N word (except when they use it).

  2. I have Indian blood, according to my father, and I was happy to be the Indian when we played cowboys and Indians. This is all just pure crap! Just because there are a few who take exception to everything, we are supposed to jump! To the "victor goes the spoils" was an expression that I remember from growing up. Does Italy owe England reparations? Does England owe India? Does Spain owe Puerto Rico or Mexico? Just get over it! That was life in a world at that time. Do the Apache's owe all of the other Indians they killed? Or, the Maya's for conquering all of Central America? I am so tired of the BS!

  3. It is so easy to hide behind "anonymous" when posting bigoted and racist comments. Why not show true conviction and post your real name?? Or better yet, walk up to a Native American and call him/her a "redskin??" (abhorrent.) To me, these posts are the pitiful tantrums of the pathetically insecure and woefully ignorant. The Washington football team should absolutely change its name. I can think of no better reason to truly showcase its proud history. Snyder can even keep the titles (he never won nor will win) and the burgundy and gold colors too.

    1. Brian,
I am of Cherokee descent, but that has nothing to do with why I am a "native American". I am a native American due to the fact that I was born in the United States. Chicago to be exact, although I don't claim it any longer thanks to those two boneheaded evil atheist morons who currently reside at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, who have de facto destroyed this country with their progressive (communist) utopian BS.
You leftists hide behind PC verbage to denigrate and attempt to shut down anyone who has a different opinion. YOU and your comrades are the biggest group of intolerant racist bigots on the planet. You make accusations of others that reflect what YOU are. Someone doesn't kowtow to your idiotology so that makes their opinion "pitiful tantrums of the pathetically insecure and woefully ignorant". Go stand in front of a mirror and repeat this quote while looking directly into it. YOU are the pathetic, mentally inferior, bigoted, racist BARNACLE that you dare to call someone else just because they disagree with your infantile, illogical opinion. The only "redskin" who would be insulted by being called what we obviously are would be some thin skinned loser crybaby who hates their own skin color, and there unfortunately are a number of those, although the rest of us laugh at them for being the fools they are. Wanna know what really pisses me off? White liberal do-gooders such as yourself who have not one drop of redskin blood in their veins and yet purport to speak for us. Your phony outrage at perceived "racist" remarks that aren't racist in the least, they only go against your personal tunnelvisioned opinion. You leftist fascists are the biggest bunch of intolerant racist bigots there are anywhere and you are all, the lot of you, mentally ill. I am a native American by birthright (born in the democratic peoples republic of Illinois). I am an American "Indian" (Cherokee) by progeny. We look out for ourselves. We don't need people like you to do it for us. Of course this only further illustrates the fact that people like you think we are too stupid to take care of our own affairs and need your enlightened elitest instruction to find our way because you know best. You and that pathetic weasel John McCain need to mind your own effing business and leave us REDSKINS alone. And the name STAYS.

      George Gist (Sequoyah to you)
