Video: Man shatters world record by running beer mile under five minutes

There's a very small percentage of the population who can run a mile in under five minutes. But this guy was able to do just that plus chug four beers along the way to the finish line.

His name is James Nielsen and he recently attempted to set the world record for the "beer mile." As one might be led to believe, Nielson, a former two-time NCAA champion, was successful in his endeavor.

Basically, Nielsen chugged a 12-ounce can of beer for every 400-meter lap he ran. However, the rules of the engagement were a lot more complicated than that. Nielsen explains them in the video above.

All told, he finished the beer mile in 4:57, which effectively smashed the time we previously thought was the best possible time anyone could notch running the beer mile.
