Fans who showed up to AT&T park to watch Matt Cain pitch Tuesday night were disappointed to see someone else besides Cain take the mound instead.
According to Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com, San Francisco's ace was scratched barely an hour before his scheduled start against the Padres after he cut the index finger on his pitching hand.
Apparently, Cain's wound was sustained when he accidentally mishandled a knife in the clubhouse kitchen before the game. Luckily, the cut is not considered serious and won't require stitches, so Cain is expected to be back into the starting rotation for his next turn.
Cain is 0-3 with a 4.25 ERA in five starts this season.
