College golf team withdraws from tournament after 'everything' burglarized from van

The Eckerd College golf team was treated to a rude awakening over the weekend when they returned to their van to find theives had made off with "everything" in it except the seats and seat belts.

The St. Petersburg school was in Miami Beach to compete in the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Barry University when the disastrous incident took place. All told, the team lost numerous items including computers, phones, wallets, and all of their golf equipment.

"Got in the van and realized that we were missing not some things, but everything," Eckerd College golf coach Bill Buttner told South Florida's WSVN. "Everything was gone."

On Monday, the team issued a statement on their website saying they had to withdraw from the tournament for "circumstances beyond their control."

"We were playing well and really looking forward to teeing up tomorrow," said Eckerd sophomore Johan Nordahl, "making the last season push to try and get into regionals. It seems like they took that away from us. I feel especially sorry for our seniors. They basically destroyed [the seniors] chance at getting to regionals."

Is there anything worse than a person who steals? What a shame.
