Photo: Joe Maddon whips up homemade hoagies for the clubhouse

Joe Maddon is just the best.

Not only is Maddon one of the most charismatic and intellectual managers in baseball, but he's also extremely handy when it comes to preparing food, as he evidenced Saturday by cranking out 60 hoagies made from a family recipe.

The recipe comes from Maddon's 80-year-old mother, Beanie, whose "Third Base Hoagies" are apparently something to die for. Fresh Italian hoagie rolls are slathered with olive oil and chopped red peppers, stuffed with ham, salami, and white American cheese, and then topped with tomato, lettuce, onion, salt, and pepper.

David DeJesus called the sandwiches "beautiful."
