High school basketball player stripped of 'player of the year' award due to obscene tweet

welchtweet

A high school basketball player in New Hampshire was stripped of his Player of the Year award recently after idiotically sending out an ill-advised tweet trashing an opponent.

Pat Welch of Pembroke Academy is the guilty party after sending out this tweet (seen above) on March 15 after scoring 15 points to guide his school to a second straight state title.

It didn't take long for Welch to realize his boneheaded mistake as the tweet was deleted within 15 minutes. Unfortunately for him, the damage had already been done.

Do you think Welch's punishment is too severe?

  1. Hahahahaha. They should have given him another award! Imagine a kid trash talking a rival after a big win? This must be the first time in the history of sport! For his sake, I just hope they do not smack his fingers with a ruler and make him do weekend detention too. Is this a classless move? Yes. Worthing of stripping a kid of a POY award? Never. I only hope he sends a congratulatory tweet out to whomever receives the vacated award , with the #sloppyseconds. Maybe the school district should do something positive, like offer a responsible social media seminar? I mean, it is not like he was running a prostitution ring from a Zumba studio or anything.

    1. You just did exactly what that kid did. Wouldn't that make you a "little pick dick punk" by your own description?
