Dominique Wilkins takes over spokesperson role formerly held by Paula Deen

NBA legend Dominique Wilkins is capitalizing on the misfortune of Paula Deen by taking over spokesperson duties formerly held by the celebrity chef personality.

Last year, Novo Nordisk, a medication to help in the fight against diabetes, dumped Deen following her nonchalant use of the n-word. Now, the company has tabbed Wilkins, who was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes over a decade ago, as the face of its medication.

"Just showing people that not just diabetes, but disease in general is faceless," Wilkins said. "It’s all about how you handle the life challenge!"

Unfortunately, Wilkins lost his father and grandfather to the disease. So, it's easy to see why the ex-Atlanta Hawk is passionate about raising awareness for the cause.
