Could Ole Miss quarterback Jeremy Liggins be the next Jared Lorenzen?

At 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds, Jeremy Liggins is built more like an offensive lineman than a quarterback. However, quarterback is exactly the position Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze plans to give him a shot at when suiting up for the Rebels this spring.

If he ceases the opportunity, Liggins has the chance to follow in the footsteps of arguably the greatest hefty quarterback our generation has ever seen: Jared Lorenzen. Like Liggins, Lorenzen was also a whale of a football player, who recently entered our hearts yet again by whipping the old pigskin around in an arena league game.

Although Liggins probably won't play his way into a starting role, considering incumbent Bo Wallace is still on the team, there's a chance to win a second or third string role with the Rebels, especially considering the guys who previously held those titles have since graduated.

Sources say Liggins can launch the football around 70 to 75 yards, so arm strength shouldn't be an issue for him. Mobility might be, though. But that's part of the fun of watching a big guy run with the rock.

Here's to hoping we see Liggins line up behind center at some point this season.
