College basketball game ends in a tie?

College Basketball Game Ends In A Tie

The college basketball game between Winstom-Salem State and Johnson C. Smith ended in an ultra-rare tie after the contest was called due to a broken light.

With the score tied at 76, the light was broken when Johnson C. Smith's Joshua Linson attempted a 75-foot desperation shot right before the buzzer sounded. The ball never came close to the basket and smashed into an overhead light dangling from the ceiling, instead.

Erring on the side of caution, officials decided to call the game to prevent anyone from getting hurt.

It's now up to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association to determine what to do about the outcome. As Deadspin notes, the last notable tie in a college basketball game came between Kentucky and Kentucky Wesleyan in 1918, due to a referee error.
