Babe Ruth's World Series pocket watch sells for how much?

LM Otero/AP

If you had $717,000 lying around on Saturday, you could have purchased a pocket watch given to Babe Ruth to commemorate the New York Yankees' victory in the 1923 World Series.

The 14-karat time piece has an inscribed message on the back that reads, "Presented by Baseball Commissioner to George H. Ruth."

Although the world title marked the fourth for Ruth at the time, as had previously won three with the Boston Red Sox, it was just the first of many to come for the Yankees.

On a related note, a bat used once used by Shoeless Joe Jackson sold for an astounding price of $956,000. Could you imagine taking batting practice with that piece of lumber?
