Like many others who heard the news of actor Philip Seymour Hoffman's passing on Sunday, former Oakland Athletics manager Art Howe is grieving.

Although the two never met, they are forever linked by Hoffman's portrayal of Howe in the 2011 film "Moneyball." Howe wasn't exactly portrayed in the best of light, but he doesn't hold that again Hoffman, who he believes was "just playing the part he was given."

"We never got to meet. I remember reading an article an article where he said he wanted to meet me and apologize for how he portrayed me. Now we're never going to have that chance."

Howe puts the blame on the producers and the writers instead of Hoffman.

"He was an outstanding actor, it's a big loss to the acting world. He's going to be missed."

Hoffman was 46.
