Toxicologist: Josh Brent had 17 drinks the night of fatal crash

According to a forensic toxicologist, ex-Cowboy Josh Brent allegedly consumed 17 drinks the night he crashed a Mercedes along a Texas highway, leading in the death of teammate Jerry Brown Jr.

The toxicologist who tested a sample or Brent's blood after the crash determined his blood content to be .18, which is more than twice the legal limit.

"I estimate approximately 17 standard size drinks in a 320 to 325 pound man like him," Schwane said.

Conversely, Brent told police that he drank less than five.

However, cross-examination by Brent's defense team challenged the integrity of the blood alcohol testing, questioning how the blood was stored and what additives were used to test the blood.

Brent is currently standing trial for a wreck that occurred on the night of Dec. 8, 2012. He is being charged with intoxication manslaughter and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
