Report: United States will have warships nearby to evacuate athletes at Olympic Games

Views Of Sochi Ahead Olympic Games

The anticipation for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi continues to build. And so does the fear that something could possibly go very wrong.

As a contingency plan, the United States will have warships and air transport ready to evacuate athletes and officials if anything bad happens during the games themselves. This is according to a report by CNN.

Planes and ships are clearly there “if something happens like a major terrorist attack and we need to get Americans out,” the official said.

In recent days, multiple media outlets have reported that police in Sochi are searching for suicide bombers who may be operating within the city limits. This is in addition to a video surfacing Sunday evening from Islamic militants that warn a "surprise" is on tap for political leaders attending the games.

For the record, the games begin Feb. 7.
