Report: Red Hot Chili Peppers to perform at Super Bowl halftime

The Super Bowl halftime show may boast a little more spice now.

According to Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will join Bruno Mars at this year's Super Bowl in New Jersey.

Mars is expected to make the announcement during FOX's coverage of the Seahawks-Saints divisional postseason game on Saturday.

The timing works perfectly for the Chili Peppers. The band was already slated to play in Brooklyn during a pre-Super Bowl party. However, this stage would most definitely be bigger.

Although it's totally plausible for some fans to dislike both Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, adding both to the mix should appeal to a wider audience, and thus make for a more intriguing halftime experience.
