Magic Johnson rips Lakers and Mike D'Antoni on 'Tonight Show'

Magic Johnson went on the "Tonight Show" with host Jay Leno on Monday night and proceeded to rip his former team and its current head coach Mike D'Antoni.

In short, Johnson didn't sugarcoat his responses at all, criticizing the Lakers for making "critical mistakes" and bashing D'Antoni for his lack of teaching defense. In fact, the five-time NBA champion even went as far as saying he "can't stand to watch the Lakers" this season.

“We’re the Lakers. We’ve got to have a championship coach. We made a critical mistake in not bringing Phil Jackson back," Johnson said.

“He [D'Antoni] don’t teach defense,” Johnson said. “I can’t stand to watch the Lakers play because the same play happens every single time on the Lakers -- pick and roll and the guard goes all the way in for a layup.

“What are we, 40-something games into the season? The teams run the same play on us. We haven’t stopped it yet. Uh, duh.”

Johnson further echoed his sentiment by saying that the proud Lakers franchise needs a championship caliber coach at the helm, which intentional or not, was a clear knock on D'Antoni.
