Mike D'Antoni tells Lakers fans to 'find another team to root for'

Mike D'Antoni has a message for any Los Angeles Lakers fan frustrated by the team's slow start out of the gates this season.

After LA's 27-point loss to the Phoenix Suns on Monday, a game following a 19-point loss to the Golden State Warriors, D'Antoni opted to take a shot at fans by telling them to go root for another team.

Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni was defiant when a reporter suggested fans have become “discouraged” by the team’s 13-15 start to the season.”Why would I be discouraged?” D’Antoni said. “We’re fighting with a bunch of good guys that played well before and they’ll play [well] again. If [the fans] are discouraged, then, you know, find another team to root for. I’m all right. We’re not going to give up. Are you kidding me? Discouraged? That’s not even fair to these guys.”

Wait, what?

It's understandable that D'Antoni is feeling a lot of pressure himself nowadays. After all, he is the head coach of one of the most proud and successful franchises in professional sports and is not getting the job done at the moment.

But telling fans to go away should never be deemed acceptable. The bottom line is the fans are what pay the salaries and keep the league chugging along. Without them, D'Antoni may very well be selling insurance or managing an In-N-Out Burger. Biting the hand that feeds you is never a wise thing to do and D'Antoni would be best served to remedy the situation sooner rather than later with an apology.
