Video: Georgetown women's player tries to block shot by throwing shoe

A freshman forward on the Georgetown Hoyas women's basketball team made her college debut memorable in more ways than one.

Seen here is a video clip of Shayla Cooper employing a creative way to attempt to block a shot during Georgetown's season-opening way over Richmond. As you can see, Cooper uses her shoe.

The whole ordeal began when Cooper lost her footing, and subsequently her left shoe, before allowing a Richmond player to step outside the three-point arc and fire off a shot. Knowing that she had no chance to block the ball with her hands, Cooper then picked up her shoe and flung it in the direction of the ball, unsuccessfully.

Amazingly, none of the referees took notice of what Cooper did, which probably would have resulted in a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct if they had.

Cooper wound up with 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in the game. Oh, and some footage that will appear on blooper reels for years to come.
