Video: Coyote unexpectedly jumps into Arizona cross country race

The Arizona Interscholastic Association Cross Country State Championships received an unexpected participant in the race when a rogue coyote made its way onto the course for awhile.

The scene occurred at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix where the coyote reportedly jumped between the two front runners in the race for about 50 meters before quietly slipping back off the course.

"I think he was looking for The Road Runner, but he was no where to be found," AIA chief operating officer Chuck Schmidt joked to the Republic. "Unfortunately, the coyote didn’t finish, so he didn't place."

Well played, Mr. Schmidt. Well played.
