Audio: Eastern Michigan fires Ron English for 'inappropriate language'

The use of some "wholly inappropriate language" has triggered Eastern Michigan to fire head coach Ron English in the midst of his fifth season at the helm.

"We hold our coaches and staff to high standards of professionalism and conduct and there is no place, particularly in a student environment, where this language is appropriate," athletic director Heather Lyke said.

An audio clip posted by the Detroit News on Saturday features English using offensive and derogatory language toward student athletes. This audio, coupled with other factors, led Lyke to make a coaching change.

"We hold our coaches and staff to high standards of professionalism and conduct and there is no place, particularly in a student environment, where this language is appropriate," athletic director Heather Lyke said.

English, who previously served as the defensive coordinator at both Michigan and Louisville, compiled an 11-46 overall record in his tenure.
