Did a pesky bird steal Manu Ginobli's new contract with Spurs?

The San Antonio Spurs have a reputation of being one of the most well-run organizations in the world of professional sports. But even they are prone to mess up every now and then.

For example, the Spurs recently sent an intern to Argentina to hand deliver a new contract offer to free agent Manu Ginobli. At first, everything went well, as Ginobli put his seal of approval on it via signature, and then the intern happily packed his bags and started back home.

However, disaster struck when a pesky bird interfered with the process.

From The New York Times:

Hours before the Spurs’ intern was to fly home from Buenos Aires, team officials said that he was strafed by a bird in a park. As he tidied up at a fountain, his backpack disappeared. Inside were Ginobili’s signed contract, along with the intern’s passport, cellphone and laptop.

Thankfully, the Spurs just so happened to have another assistant traveling to Buenos Aires around that time, and this person successfully delivered and returned a signed contract without hiccup.

"We were all waiting for Manu’s contract to show up on eBay," Sean Marks, San Antonio's director of basketball operations, told Longman. "It hasn't yet."

Now word yet on whether the intern has been canned or not.
