Video: Todd Helton pulls hidden ball trick on Matt Carpenter

At the end of the month, Colorado Rockies first basemen Todd Helton has already announced his intent to retire, which is a shame because it means the end of seeing such shenanigans as the one he pulled against Matt Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.

Watch as the wryly veteran catches Carpenter off guard with the old hidden ball trip in the top of the first inning. Helton retrieves the toss from pitcher Roy Oswalt, pretends to toss the ball back, and applies the tag as Carpenter wanders off the bag to dust some dirt off his uniform.

Todd Helton will be missed.

  1. I have been a Helton fan since his rookie season--a true delight to watch his career develop, and sorry to see it come to a close.
