The Oakland Athletics came about as close to victory as possible without getting a win Tuesday night while hosting the Houston Astros.
Down 5-4, with two outs, and a man on second in the bottom of the ninth, Chris Young represented the game-winning run at the plate. He then proceeded to smash an offering from Astros reliever Chia-Jen Lo deep down the left field line and toward the foul pole.
A's fans held their collective breath as the ball sailed within an inch of being fair. Instead, the umpires ruled the ball to be foul, and Young eventually struck out to end the game.
You don't lose like that very often.
