Officer who escorted LeBron James to concert to be disciplined

The officer who provided Miami Heat star LeBron James a police escort to the Justin Timberlake/Jay Z concert last week has been disciplined by the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Controversy ensued after James posted a live video of the escort on social media sites over the weekend. It showed James weaving through traffic and going the wrong way as police vehicles flashed their emergency lights.

In a statement released Thursday, the department said it had opted to give the officer "informal counseling" after completing a brief investigation into the escort. Apparently, the escort did not follow proper procedures and policies.

No further action is expected to be taken against the officer.

The officer was not identified, either.

All in all, I'm sure the officer believes the whole experience was worth it. How often can you lead King James to a sold out concert and receive only a slap on the wrist for doing so?

  1. The crime rate in Miami-Dade County must be at an all time low to have time and resources to escort the self-proclaimed "King". James should be charged with the cost of the escort. I understand he brings "tax dollars" to the Miami area, but if he had checked his ego, he should reconsider his tweetering the event. How is that 1% working for you?
