Former Auburn star Korvotney Barber found dead in Florida

The body of former Auburn Tigers basketball star Korvotney Barber was found in Florida on Sunday after the 26-year-old died after apparently drowning.

According to authorities, Barber was found Sunday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. near condos on the coastline of Panama City Beach. Officials are still waiting for an official cause of death as medical examiners have yet to fully examine the remains.

Barber had been previously declared missing since Saturday night at approximately 7:00 p.m. before his body was discovered the next day.

Barber played for the Tigers from 2005-09 and averaged 10.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in his college career. He was only the second McDonald's All-American in the school's history to play for Auburn.

He earned All-SEC second team honors in his senior season and played professionally overseas for two years, most recently with the Lugano Tigers of Switzerland.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the devastatingly tragic and untimely death of Korvotney Barber," Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said via statement. "The Auburn Family remembers Vot as a relentless competitor with the heart of a champion. More importantly, those who knew him best remember him as a caring father who deeply loved his children and his family. Korvotney's family and friends will remain in our thoughts and prayers during this profoundly sad time."
