Harlem Globetrotters select Mariano Rivera in annual draft

The 2013 season will mark the last in the illustrious career of New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera. And it has led some to wonder what lies ahead for baseball's all-time saves leader.

Well, if all else fails, Rivera can always join forces with the Harlem Globetrotters. The famed basketball team selected Rivera along with several college basketball players on Tuesday in their seventh annual draft. Apparently, the Globetrotters are interested in Rivera because of his ability to close out games.

"In the fourth quarter, when the Globetrotters need to close out a game, who better than the best closer of all-time? Mariano Rivera has made a living by finishing off opponents. We always have a place on our roster for winning athletes with that kind of mindset," the team said in a statement.

Nice try, guys.

Harlem also used one of their five dubious picks on Phoenix Mercury's Brittney Griner. However, Griner has already came out and said she isn't interested.
