Alabama basketball player arrested in connection with kidnapping case

Alabama freshman forward Devonta Pollard was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl in Mississippi.

Pollard is facing one count of conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

The alleged kidnapping took place on April 30 when Jashayla Hopson was abducted from her elementary school in Scooba, Miss. She was found unharmed the next day.

In May, Pollard's mother was charged with the kidnapping of Hopson in Kemper County. Pollard's name wasn't tied to the crime at the time. It is now, obviously.

A total of six people have now been arrested in the case.

According to Tuscaloosanews.com, Pollard had not been working out with the team this offseason and was reportedly considering a transfer to a school closer to his hometown.

The 6-foot-8 Pollard averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 rebounds for the Crimson Tide last season.
