Pitchers often get blamed for not fielding their position viligantly. But that certainly can't be said for Baltimore Orioles right-hander Tommy Hunter.
Hunter managed to escape a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning Sunday after fielding a sharp comebacker hit by Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista with his bare hand. You don't believe me? Check out the video clip above that shows Hunter making the jaw-dropping snag.
Hunter appeared to be in some discomfort as he walked off the field, but X-rays after the game proved to be negative. However, the reliever did experience considerable swelling.
"Hopefully the swelling goes down and stays down," Hunter said. "I think I'll be all right."
Although his grab helped secure the lead, the Orioles wound up falling, 6-5, as Toronto staged a four-run rally in the ninth to steal the win.
