Video: Rich Rodriguez surprised with mariachi band for birthday

Arizona Wildcats head football coach Rich Rodriguez received a musical surprise for his 50th birthday.

On Friday, Rodriguez walked into work and found a real life mariachi band playing in his honor. He even tried his hand at strumming on the guitar at one point.

Oh, and then the former Michigan and West Virginia coach also received a delicious-looking cake, as well as a piece of luggage with the Arizona logo on it.

Rodriguez went 8-5 in his first season at the helm of the Wildcats program, including a win over the Nevada Wolfpack in the New Mexico Bowl. It appears as though the folks at Arizona love the guy. I'm not sure the same can be said in Morgantown or Ann Arbor, though.

  1. Rich Rod,best of luck at AZ.Michigan is a bad fit for anyone who ventures up North, except for us "Buckeyes"

  2. As a loyal West "by god" Virginian I'm disappointed in the way Coach Rich Rod left the old gold and blue hanging but regardless I wish you nothing but bright horizons, best of luck, and a bowl game against the Mountaineers in the near future. GOOOOOOOO Eer's

  3. I'm glad to see RichRod smiling these days, as we didn't see that much here in the north.Coach, you didn't get the respect you deserved in Ann Arbor. We wish you a Happy Birthday and best of luck with the Wildcats.I'll bet you don't miss how some goofy buckeye fan always throws a comment on "how they own the north" around...
