Video: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar teaches Brittney Griner signature shot

Perhaps the greatest women's college basketball player of all-time and one of the best NBA players to ever lace them up were on the court together Wednesday.

Phoenix Mercury rookie Brittney Griner took time after practice to work out with NBA Hall of Fame enter Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Griner, who was recently drafted No. 1 overall after dominating at Baylor, got out the proverbial pencil and pad as Jabbar taught her his signature sky hook shot.

"I went to legend school today, and it was awesome," Griner said afterward.

The encounter was reportedly set up by team vice president Ann Meyers Drysdale, who contacted Jabbar through the NBA office to see if he would be willing to work with Griner. He accepted and the rest is history.

Griner said she plans to incorporate what she learned, but admitted that learning the trademark shot takes more time than just a brief instructional lesson.

"You'll see some hooks, but to do a true skyhook, that's going to take a while to get it down perfect," she said. "But you'll definitely see once I get a feel. I definitely want to get that in there."

Jabbar seemed impressed by what he saw from Griner.

"She's a very talented athlete," he said. "She's not just tall, she has some skills. She runs the court very well, she's active. I think she's going to have a great career."

Griner is already regarded as one of the top WNBA prospects to ever come into the league. Adding another weapon to her offensive arsenal like the skyhook may just make her unstoppable.
