Video: Lightning center Nate Thompson has visor shattered by wicked slap shot
Here is a great example of why the majority of National Hockey League players wear protective visors.
Tampa Bay Lightning center Nate Thompson had to leave the game against Washington on Saturday after receiving a puck to the face, courtesy of Capitals defenseman Mike Green.
Green was setting up for a shot during a power play opportunity and proceeded to fire the puck towards to net. Unfortunately, the shot sailed high and struck Thompson in the face, but not before it shattered his visor in the process.
Thompson's left eye appeared to be bleeding profusely as he left the ice and headed toward the locker room. Thompson seems to be okay because he returned to the game shortly after.
