Video: Ben Zobrist gets rung up on most egregious strike three call ever

The game between the Rays and Rangers Monday night ended with perhaps the worst strike three call in the history of baseball.

With the Rays trailing 5-4 in the top of the 9th, Ben Zobrist had a chance to bring around the tying around, which was leading off first base. However, the Rays were down to their final out, and Zobrist had pushed the count full against Rangers hurler Joe Nathan. Thus, a big pitch awaited.

That pitch is shown in the video above, which clearly sailed low and outside for a ball, but for some crazy reason, umpire Marty Foster calls it a strike, which effectively ends the game in controversial fashion.

Umpire Marty Foster issued the following statement after the game: “I saw the pitch and of course don’t have the chance to do it again. But had I had a chance to do it again, I wouldn’t call that pitch a strike.”

Yeah, no kidding.
