Houston Texan: Our locker room would laugh at Manti Te'o

Former Notre Dame linebacker and NFL draft hopeful Manti Te'o is bound to receive some form of rookie hazing when he enters the league next season. He has been publicly ridiculed since news broke that his girlfriend was imaginary, and his future teammates are likely to give him a hard time over the matter.

One team he may be hoping he doesn't land on is the Houston Texans.

Texans defensive end Antonio Smith said on Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network that he believes Te'o would get some brutal treatment in the Houston locker room if they drafted him.

“Our locker room is full of clowns and, oh, man people would kill him. I mean he would be the butt of every joke for at least two, three years,” Smith said.

Smith thinks the inevitable jokes about Te'o will come easier if the Heisman finalist learns to laugh them off.

“You just got to be a good sport, man, it is what it is and you know it is out now, it’s out in the papers and on TV, so all you can do now, you can’t worry about it, you can’t change it, all you can do now is laugh — laugh with us while we’re laughing at you,” Smith said.

Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

For the record, Houston has the 27th overall pick in the draft. Will Te'o still be on the board when their turn comes around?

  1. Based on his preformence in the BCS and the combine I think it is safe to say he will still be around for the 27th pick in round 3.

Get your GED before you make any more comments.

    5. I too agree with learning how to spell, however I seriously doubt the 6 year old could spell it correctly. Spelling is no longer important in school and to quote my daughters english teacher " We don't care about how the spelling is on papers they because all computers come with spell checker now"

    22. One bad game doesnt mean anything.I can come up dozens of bad performances by future NFL all pros and even hall of famers in their college days.I still remember in the rose bowl when Michigan corner leon Hall got toasted all day by USC w.r D. Jarret.Leon Hall became an excellent corner-pro bowler and Jarrett lasted about 3 seasons with about 20 career catches.Means nothing like a slow 40 time at the combine.

      Delete
    23. Jarrett, the sensational Southern California junior, caught 11 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns to help the eighth-ranked Trojans finish their season with a statement Monday in a 32-18 romp over Michigan.
His 62-yard touchdown behind All-American cornerback Leon Hall put USC ahead 25-11 early in the fourth and showed just how good the 6-foot-5 pass catcher can be.

The Carolina Panthers picked him in the 1st round and he was a total BUST.Leon Hall was horrible he couldnt cover him short or deep. But he put it behind him and went on to be one of the better cover guys in the game.

  3. In my opinion, He will fall further down in the draft. Not 1st round, as predicted before the BCS. But, with his terrible performance in the NFL Combine, he's not going to bee as big as a priority as he was when he almost won the Heisman. There's not alot of public eye on him anymore.

I'd say he's gunna fall late in the 3rd-4th round. But I highly doubt that he'll go in the 1st round, unless a team is so desperate to try to make a miracle happen, or if a team like Baltimore wants to replace their aging linebackers. That's how I see it happening.

    1. Your insane! Just cuz he ran a 4.81 40 doesnt mean he had a horrible combine. There is noway he will be around in rnd 3 or 4. Mark my words. He will run a 4.6 at his pro day and get drafted in the late 1st or early to mid 2nd. his game tape (minus the championship game) speaks for itself.

With his combine non-performance I doubt he'll be drafted at all, but if he is, he won't last long in the NFL because he's not fast, strong, or tough enough.

But it is a FACT .. there is a certain % of NFL players who will not let this kid slide by without giving him one hell of a hard time ... and you ought to know this, being naive to think it isnt going to happen isnt going to keep it from happening ... MUCH less what the OTHER team will say to him on the field > that will even be worse

This makes him a better person than than those who want to ridicule. Regardless where he's drafted, he'll play on Sunday and have an income many times more than those of his critics. He graduated in less than 4 years, at ND, getting a legitimate degree. Not too bad. He owes nothing to his critics... I wish him well.

    4. You don't care about character and are more concerned he's not a good football player? WOW... please don't have kids.

      Delete
    5. I guess you can't read doofus. These post aren't about character. His or the people commenting. He and ND got a bunch of hype for a mediocre, at best, team. He put up numbers against unranked teams, three of which stayed within three points of ND. They play a crap schedule with crap. Character isn't a big topic among professional athelets. Dennis Rodman, Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, our newest lier Lance Armstrong. If you care about character find another avenue besides professional athelets they prostitute their God given skills.

I do have four extremely successful children and fourteen grand children. I also played college football in the sixties for probably the largest independent university in the nation.

    6. OK last post..
Please reread the all the above posts and count how many are critical of this 22 year old. They are disparaging of his character. How would you feel if this were your child? Would you post the same remarks as you do now?
Most of the remarks are a result of many people's hate / dislike or negativity against ND. Anytime someone can take a shot, they will.
Teo is NOT a professional athlete yet. He's still a 22 year old. Treat him as you would want others treating one of your 4 kids.

      Delete
    7. My children were raised to use common sense. They would never be in this situation. Character isn't about being ignorant. As far as ND goes the media has put them in this situation. They play nobody so there is no way to determine how good or bad the team really is, because of a very long ago past they get looked at very differently. They did beat Oklahoma and we saw how A&M dismantled that also not so good team. ND had no business in the BCS championship game and Te'o had no business being in New York with truly talented football players.

      Delete
    8. The only way to find out is to play. They beat everyone on their schedule. Were you certain that USC, Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, and Oklahoma were "nobody" teams this year?

      Delete
    9. Agree with u,went to Alabama for 6 years--- so can't stand ND. But this kid is the one that got screwed over. He did nothing wrong and seems very decent. Think after he clears his head,he will be a very good player. He actually has handled it pretty well--- and every rookie gets gazed. He will get it worse by far,but I think he will handle it. Damn, can't believe I'm sticking up for a ND player!!

    10. I think Notre Dame has better academic standards then most ranked schools. Think he may be a good guy. But wasting a high draft pick on a linebacker with questionable toughness seems a waste. He looked bad in the big game. draft him low, and if he earns a spot, great.
