Former Notre Dame linebacker and NFL draft hopeful Manti Te'o is bound to receive some form of rookie hazing when he enters the league next season. He has been publicly ridiculed since news broke that his girlfriend was imaginary, and his future teammates are likely to give him a hard time over the matter.
One team he may be hoping he doesn't land on is the Houston Texans.
Texans defensive end Antonio Smith said on Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports Network that he believes Te'o would get some brutal treatment in the Houston locker room if they drafted him.
“Our locker room is full of clowns and, oh, man people would kill him. I mean he would be the butt of every joke for at least two, three years,” Smith said.
Smith thinks the inevitable jokes about Te'o will come easier if the Heisman finalist learns to laugh them off.
“You just got to be a good sport, man, it is what it is and you know it is out now, it’s out in the papers and on TV, so all you can do now, you can’t worry about it, you can’t change it, all you can do now is laugh — laugh with us while we’re laughing at you,” Smith said.
Hey, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
For the record, Houston has the 27th overall pick in the draft. Will Te'o still be on the board when their turn comes around?
