Florida Gators basketball player arrested after failing to appear in court

A member of the Florida Gators basketball team was arrested Wednesday morning after he failed to appear in court for diving without a valid driver's license.

Damontre Harris, who is sitting out this season due to NCAA transfer rules after transferring from South Carolina, was slated to appear in court for arraignment last August, which stemmed from a citation issued by campus police on July 17. Harris never attended that arraignment and is now facing the penalty.

At around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, a member of the Gainesville Police Department pulled over the 21-year-old after he ran a red light at an intersection near Florida's campus.

The officer then proceeded to run Harris' license through the system and noticed there was a warrant out for Harris' arrest.

According to the police report, Harris was arrested and then booked into the Alachua County Jail around 2:30 a.m. Harris was released 14 minutes later on his own recognizance.

The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Gamecocks during his sophomore campaign in 2011-12.

His court arraignment is scheduled for March 14. Perhaps Harris will show up this time.
