College baseball team wins for the first time in nearly 10 years

The California Institute of Technology baseball team ended a massive winning drought on Saturday with a 9-7 victory over Pacifica. The win snapped an atrocious 228-game losing skid and gave the Beavers their first win in nearly decade.

Caltech's winning effort came in game two of its season-opening doubleheader in which they dropped the first game by a tally of 5-0. Freshman pitcher Daniel Chou hurled a complete-game effort to put the Beavers in the win column for the first time since Feb. 15, 2003.

The No. 1 song in America at that time was "All I Have" by Jennifer Lopez featuring LL Cool J.

The top three box office hits in '03 were The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Finding Nemo, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

"It was almost as if they had been there before," said first-year Caltech coach Matthew Mark.

Although it was a much-need win for Caltech, it still wasn't a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win. The Beavers haven't won a conference game since 1988, which spans a whopping 463 games.

The school's men's basketball team recently ended a 310-game conference losing streak in 2011.
