Video: Maria Sharapova is really excited about beating Venus Williams
Maria Sharapova's victory over Venus Williams in the Australian Open was by no means an upset. Sharapova entered the match ranked No. 2 in the world, while Williams ranked 25th. Still, Sharapova seemed really jazzed after cruising past her American opponent in straight sets on Friday.
More from the USA TODAY:
It was a routine third-round win for Sharapova over an aging opponent she had a winning record against. So why did the Russian tennis star celebrate like she won a Grand Slam title?
Sharapova let out a loud shriek and thrust her fists in the air on match point, then bent over at her knees to shout again while making her way to the net. To watch it, you'd think she just endured a marathon win.
Hey, there is nothing wrong with a little celebratory gesture every now and then. If NFL players can dance around every time they make one little positive play, why can't Sharapova enjoy a win over an elite opponent?
