Former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker suggests Holocaust could have been avoided if Jews had guns

Former MLB pitcher John Rocker, who has a reputation of creating controversy, might have just stirred up the proverbial pot once again.

The 38-year old is now a political columnist for World News Daily, and he recently used the platform to express his views on gun control, which is a very sensitive topic in this country right now. Naturally, given his track record of ill-advised remarks, he wrote something which is likely to upset some folks.
Mr. Obama wants to severely neuter the Second Amendment and disarm the law-abiding citizens of this nation, a similar act of tyrants throughout the 20th century such as Stalin, Mao and Hitler. Absolute certainties are a rare thing in this life, but one I think can be collectively agreed upon is the undeniable fact that the Holocaust would have never taken place had the Jewish citizenry of Hitler’s Germany had the right to bear arms and defended themselves with those arms.
Wait, what? Is Rocker really suggesting the Holocaust could have been avoided if Jewish citizens had more firepower? I believe this is the case.

This isn't the first time Rocker has voiced his opinion and came under fire for it.

In a story published in a December 1999 issue of Sports Illustrated, Rocker made several questionable remarks regarding his hatred for New York City. Most of his remarks came across as racist, sexist, homophobic, and just generally offensive in nature.

Rocker, who resides in Atlanta, broke into the major leagues with the Braves in 1998 as a hard-throwing reliever. He played in parts of four seasons with the Braves before being traded to the Indians during the middle of the year. Rocker was traded by the Indians to the Rangers a mere six months later. After one season with Texas, he later signed with Tampa Bay for the 2003 campaign.

Marred by off-the-field issues, criticism from fans, and declining performance, Rocker was eventually released by Tampa Bay during June 2003. He took the 2004 season off to recover from shoulder surgery and tried to make a return to baseball in 2005. However, his comeback was short lived after being released by the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League in June 2005.

  3. Not such a preposterous statement...sounds like you're just a "hater" against a good 'ole Southern boy"...maybe you came from that severely demented New York area...Mr. Rocker's statements at the time were used by the media to drum up hate against an opposing team's player but most of what he said was true...there are alot of weirdo's in New York...no one can deny that!

  5. Being unarmed, as Hitler disarmed the entire country except those he controled, the Jewish people had no recourse. Of course it would have made a difference, even if only a small one, if they had been armed.

  6. And that is controversial how? It makes perfect sense to me. It sure makes it a lot harder to go after someone if they have a gun.

  8. And the contraversial part is what ????
In all of the cases he stated, that was the first thing these Dictators did.... Disarm the masses.... it makes it so much easier to take over control.

  9. Rocker is spot on....what a bunch of morons on this site. 2nd Amendment is an absolute right. All you left wing assholes can go to hell.

  10. I don't think his comments were controversial...our country is full of prudish, selfish, ignorant little sissies anymore. My grandfather would roll over in his grave if he knew what we'd become. And as far as guns go, my father fed his family with his guns.... so you wanna ban the right to feed your family?

    1. Amen....this country now has the reputation for being passive wimps. The cause of it comes clearly from Democratic leaders who champion every freaks to gat marriage, but then turn around and now take away rights under the second ammendment. I said it on election day...this clown and his court have just begun to screw with us. Plenty more shocking stuff on the way with these idiots in the white house. And you idiots voted the new dictatorship back in....so you got what you wanted.

    1. Yes I see the irony of me telling people to pick up a book and yet have spelling mistakes. Unfortunately the point I was making will now be lost on the masses....ah well.

  14. Wow. As I read the comments from the majority of you misinformed, uneducated half-wits, I can't help but be glad that I don't have to live in your country. Too bad there are some intelligent people in America whose voices get drowned out by the single digit IQ populace who keeps on screaming "You can take my guns when you pry them from my cold dead hands". Can't wait for that day. Almost all of you who scream about your 2nd amendment 'rights' don't even understand the context it was written under and you will willingly choose not to educate yourselves on it. How sad you have become.

Sincerely, a combat tested and trained Paratrooper who understands when something is worth the fighting for.

    1. Oh, and by all means allow me to correct my signature which should have read "worth fighting for" minus the additional 'the' which didn't get deleted. I mention this of course lest someone try to pretend that they can focus on that one word error because they don't want to give my actual point any thought.

    3. If you knew anything about actual US history you would realize THAT the Bill Of Rights and the US Constitution exist independent of CONTEXT. These are rights granted by GOD and not subject to elimination by any government or petty tyrant, or political party, or Imperial President.
They are valid from when they were first written on paper & on into the future of humankind. More mass murders of citizens have been carried out by GOVERNMENTS since the beginning of recorded history. The Government is NOT the citizens friend it is a rapacious necessity that needs to be constrained. The price of LIBERTY is eternal vigilance !

Rocker makes a good point. Typical of all pinko dip wads is to shoot the messenger and ridicule the premise. The author, like many of the responders here, follows that path with their asinine diarrhea of the mouth. Its past time that these know it alls either button it or study their history.

  16. The founding fathers of the U.S. knew that to disarm the masses would result in the masses being easily controlled and a loss of freedom so the 2nd amendment was written. The U.S. is supposed to be exceptional, not the same as other countries. Later, Hitler and others knew an armed citizenry was a threat to the Nazi Regime, so in 1935, all firearms were registered with the German Government. Soon after that, firearms were confiscated and the citizenry was controlled with awful results to Jewish people especially. Consider also that private gun ownership in the U.S. is a huge deterrent to a foreign army landing on U.S. soil. So, that is reality. Those who disagree with this are free to leave the U.S. and go to a more "civilized free" country. See then how easy it is to come back. Agree, mental health fitness is an issue with firearm ownership. Also recognize that bad behavior is learned from violent videos. Of course,no one wants to touch that issue because it is the 1st Amendment. Once individual liberties are restricted, they never come back and rules (by Democrats especially) almost always end up in a loss of freedom over time. Witness the tax increases that never end.........

    1. Actually, the founding fathers never even pictured the masses being armed. The Bill of Rights was written during a period when not even everyone in the military had a "gun." No one is going to take away all your freaking guns so settle down. But assault weapons should and will be banned and if you need an assault rifle to feel more like a man than that's just plain sad.

    1. Well seeing that in Great Britain, where you can't purchase firearms, there are about 30-40 gun deaths per year. In the crazy US there is 11,000-12,000 gun deaths per year. So yes, gun control will undoubtedly stop a lot of "nuts from committing hideous crimes."

  19. this is true, the first thing hitler did, was make you register, then take away guns, and then murder millions. soudns a lot like obama.

  20. It might be noted if one references history that Hitler did not disarm German citizens. The conclusion of World War I an important cease-fire document was issued called the Treaty of Versailles thus rendering Germany “neutered.” When Hitler rose to power the treaty was violated as Germany began to re-arm. The Jews were barred from having guns under the 3rd Reich. Only upstanding Nazis or Germans of pure blood could possess weapons.
