Augusta State basketball player arrested on weapon charges

Harold Doby, a starting forward on the Augusta State University basketball team, was arrested for having a gun on campus Wednesday evening.

He was charged with possession of a weapon in a school building and currently remains behind bars at the Richmond County Jail, without bond.

The university released the following statement late Wednesday night regarding Doby's arrrest:

The arrest of Harold Doby is a pending criminal matter. He has been suspended from the team indefinitely, pending investigation. The institution will investigate this matter for violations to the university’s student code of conduct and will continue to partner with local law enforcement agencies to resolve this matter.

The safety and security of our students is our top priority and we will continue to take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety of our campus community. We will not comment further at this time.

Doby, a junior, has started all 11 games for the Jaguars this season. He is the team's second-leading scorer (11.8 PPG) and second-leading rebounder (7.3 RPG).
