Two Virginia Tech football players arrested after setting off explosives

Joshua Trimble Brian Rody

A pair of Virginia Tech football players have been arrested after an alleged prank involving an explosive device. The players have been identified as linebacker Joshua Trimble (20) and backup quarterback Brian Rody (19). Both are walk-ons and redshirt freshman for the Hokies.

Police responded to a Blacksburg-area apartment complex after someone reported an explosion near the premises. The two were taken into custody and charged with manufacturing and detonating an explosive device. Both are being held on a $2,500 bond.

The players' attorney, James Turk, told the Associated Press that his clients were just playing a prank on a friend and meant no harm. Luckily, nobody was injured.

Ah, freshman. I guess the ole' plastic wrap on the toilet seat or shower towel theft wouldn't have sufficed.
