Chiefs player commits suicide at team facility

Tragedy has struck the National Football League.

A member of the Kansas City Chiefs football team fatally shot his girlfriend Saturday morning, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and turned the gun on himself. Police have yet to release the name of the player, but have confirmed that the player in question was 25-years old.

Kansas City authorities received a call Saturday morning from a woman who said her daughter had been shot multiple times at a residence about five miles away from the Arrowhead complex. Police spokesmen Darin Snapp said a call was then received from the Chiefs' practice facility shortly thereafter. Once police arrive on the scene, they witnessed a black male with a handgun being confronted by two team personnel. That's when authorities heard a gun shot.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

Again, a sad story coming out of Kansas City.

*Update - It has since been learned that the player has been identified as Jovan Belcher.*
