It's been said that the game of baseball is more mental than it is physical. I'm going to venture to say that Oakland A's reliever Grant Balfour is a believer in this sentiment. That might explain this video clip from Tuesday night at the Oakland Coliseum.
Watch as the native Australian pumps himself up before entering Game Three of the ALDS. Balfour's bullpen entrance is complete with a lot of positive thoughts and about eight ounces of water this go around. His intense routine has even garnered a nickname of its own from the Oakland faithful: "Balfour Rage".
The 34-year old has pitched very well for the upstart AL West Champions in 2012. In 75 regular season appearances, he sported a tidy 2.53 ERA, 0.924 WHIP, and recorded 24 saves over 74.2 innings. He and the A's will look to keep their season alive when they host the Detroit Tigers for Game Four of the series Wednesday night.
