The upstart Baltimore Orioles have plenty to be excited about these days. They sit atop the American League Wild Card standings and look all but certain to make their first trip to the playoffs since 1996. The good times kept rolling in game one of their doubleheader on Monday.
It all went down in the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Flaherty lifted a solo homer over the wall and into the Orioles bullpen. That's when reliever Luis Ayala got in on the action and made a fine catch using only his cap to assist him. With hands like that, don't be surprised if Baltimore manager Buck Showalter opts to insert Ayala as a defensive subsitution at some point.
The Orioles won the game, by the way, 4-1 over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays.
