Video: Mountaineers quarterback Geno Smith throws eight touchdowns in one game
The No. 9 West Virginia Mountaineers made their long-awaited debut in the Big 12 Conference as they hosted the No. 25 Baylor Bears on Saturday. There was no shortage of offense either as the two teams combined for 133 points -- 70 with which came in the first half alone. But in the end, it was the Mountaineers who prevailed by a score of 70-63.
West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith lit up the Baylor secondary for 656 passing yards and a conference record EIGHT touchdowns in the offensive showdown. Perhaps more impressive than Smith's touchdown total though, was wide receiver Stedman Bailey's 303 yards receiving and five touchdown catches off 13 receptions. His performance overshadowed a terrific day from teammate Tavon Austin who grabbed a team high 14 balls and racked him 215 receiving yards himself.
Not bad for their first game in a new conference, eh?
