There's been some unusual things going on at Tropicana Field this weekend during the Tampa Bay Rays-Toronto Blue Jays series. On Saturday, Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria hit a homerun off a light fixture. Sunday's contest also brought forth more wear and tear on the facilities at 'The Trop'.
The play unfolded during the bottom of the first when Rays leadoff hitter Desmond Jennings sent a drive to deep center. Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus was able to track it down and haul it in right before crashing into the wall. Nothing too odd about it except for the fact that the force of Rasmus' momentum caused the outfield wall to open up a bit.
Unfortunately, Toronto has been running into proverbial walls all season long. They entered play on Sunday riding a 5-game losing skid and a last place standing the AL East Division. To make matters worse, the NHL is still engaged in a lockout, meaning that the fine folks of Canada's largest city cannot turn to Maple Leafs hockey for comfort. Yes, tough times in Toronto right now.
